Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) are facing a big challenge: international rules of sewage sludge are becoming more stringent with the aim to protect the environment, increasing the operating costs of these institutions. For that reason, WWTPs urgently need a cheaper solution that makes them comply with the new regulations.

With the aim of reinventing the liquid waste disposal process, the Swiss start-up TreaTech is developing WAS2VAL, an eco-friendly and cost-efficient solution for treating wastewater. This project consists of a catalytic hydrothermal gasification system that allows WWTPs to transform different types of liquid waste into useful products such as biogas, clean water and mineral salts.

Using this technology, Wastewater Treatment Plants can be more respectful with the environment by reducing its CO2 emissions while generating clean water. For this reason, this project has been funded under the EIC Accelerator Pilot Green Deal call.
