EIC Transition 2023: the European programme for developing novel technologies and business cases

EIC Transition is the right option for innovation activities looking to support its maturation and validation in relevant environments or the development of business cases for future commercialisation (TRL 3-4 to TRL 5-6).

Who can apply to EIC Transition in 2023?

Either individual applicants or up to 5 participants in small consortia are welcome to apply.

Even if all fields of science, technology or application are eligible, your TRL is decisive to becoming part of successful projects. Your initiative must be a novel breakthrough technology in TRL 3-4 and be 4-5 years away from market entry.

For EIC Transition Open, submitted projects must have previously been funded by ERC, FET, EDF and EIC Pathfinder.

For EIC Transition Challenges, eligibility is restricted toprojects funded under Horizon 2020 or Horizon Europe.

It is also necessary to be the IPR owner or holder or have the rights to commercialise.

What’s the budget for 2023, and how much could you achieve if your project is funded?

The total budget for EIC Transition is €128 million. The EIC Transition grant amount is set at €2.5 million, and the funding rate covers 100% of costs.

EIC Transition Challenges in 2023: what’s new?

Each challenge targets specific goals has specific conditions and is expected to address specific outcomes:

• Full-scale Micro-Nano-Bio devices for medical and medical research applications.
• Environmental intelligence.
• RNA-based therapies and diagnostics for complex or rare genetic diseases.
