Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) Scale-Up:
The EIC STEP Scale-Up programme is a new funding initiative designed to support the scaling of deep-tech innovations in strategic technology sectors. It offers investments ranging from €10 million to €30 million to help companies expand their operations and reduce Europe’s technological dependency on other regions.
It focuses on 3 technology areas:
- digital and deep tech technologies (AI, quantum, semiconductors)
- clean technologies (renewable energy, carbon capture)
- biotechnologies (medicinal products, bioinformatics)

When is the deadline to apply for the EIC STEP Scale-Up Call?
The introduction of the EIC STEP Scale-Up programme in 2025 marks a significant change, as it provides larger investment amounts (up to €30 million) compared to the previous funding available under the traditional EIC Accelerator programme.
EIC Accelerator & Pre-Accelerator (Widera)
The EIC Accelerator supports high-risk, high-impact innovations with the potential for significant market scale-up. It provides a grant component of up to €2.5 million for innovation activities progressing from TRL 6 to 8, and an investment component ranging from €0.5 million to €10 million to help scale up.
A key change for the EIC Accelerator is the introduction of the Pre-Accelerator for widening countries under the WIDERA initiative. This program offers grants ranging from €300k to €500k, with a total budget of €20M. The call will open in May and close in mid-November 2025, featuring a single-stage remote evaluation process. It follows the EIC Transition criteria and provides fast-track access to the EIC Accelerator, along with Business Acceleration Services (BAS).
