PROMISOL – PROCLIMADP
PROMISOL – PROCLIMADP: a solution to heat stress with CDTI PID
PROMISOL is developing PROCLIMADP within the framework of CDTI PID, a project aimed at improving crop response to high-temperature conditions. In collaboration with the University of Granada, PROMISOL is working on an advanced biostimulant that combines antioxidant ingredients and amino acids. The project focuses on legume crops and proposes a new approach to support their performance and adaptation under adverse climatic conditions.
The Problem
Climate change is increasing temperatures and the frequency of extreme events such as heatwaves. As a result, crops are experiencing greater heat stress, particularly in vulnerable regions such as the Mediterranean basin.
At the cellular level, these conditions can cause protein denaturation, inhibit photosynthesis and promote the accumulation of reactive oxygen species. These effects compromise the viability of plant tissues and can reduce the productivity of strategic crops such as soybeans and beans.
Several strategies are currently available to address this problem, including genetic improvement and the use of biostimulants. However, genetic approaches require long development periods and significant investment. Meanwhile, many biostimulants focus on osmoregulatory mechanisms or general stress responses, which may be insufficient during severe episodes of heat stress.
The Project
In this context, Promisol is leading the PROCLIMADP project, building on its experience in plant biostimulation, its technical capabilities and its track record of collaboration with research centres. The project is being developed in collaboration with the University of Granada.
PROCLIMADP aims to develop an advanced biostimulant based on a synergistic combination of antioxidant ingredients and amino acids. This solution is designed to address the physiological and biochemical effects that affect plants under adverse conditions.
The project also represents a technological step forward compared with current solutions on the market. Moving beyond conventional strategies focused on osmoregulation, PROCLIMADP is advancing towards a precision proteostasis approach.
The Impact
The project aims to contribute to greater resilience of legume crops to episodes of heat stress, an increasingly relevant challenge as temperatures rise and heatwaves become more frequent.
The development of this solution could help reduce the impact of high temperatures on crop performance. It also aims to support their adaptation to adverse climatic conditions. In this way, the project seeks to provide a more specific tool to address the effects of climate change on agricultural production.
In addition, PROCLIMADP will enable PROMISOL to advance the development of more specialised plant biostimulation solutions, strengthening its innovation capabilities in this field.
The Result
With the support of Evolution Europe, PROMISOL has secured €269,095.55 in total funding through the CDTI’s Research and development projects (PID) programme to develop PROCLIMADP in collaboration with the University of Granada. Of this amount, €40,364 corresponds to the non-repayable component (TNR), while the remainder is provided as repayable funding.
This funding will enable PROMISOL to continue developing the new solution and move forward with the implementation of PROCLIMADP.
