Ingulados – Balimmune
The overall objective of the BALIMMUNE project is to build and consolidate a reproducible scientific and technical framework that enables the identification, obtainment and comparative evaluation of bioactive molecules of bacterial origin with potential immunomodulatory capacity and/or antimicrobial activity. The project aims to reduce the existing technological uncertainty regarding their possible future application in the field of animal health, including their compatibility with experimental formulations used as references in veterinary autogenous vaccines.
The Problem
Animal health is facing an increasingly relevant challenge: developing innovative solutions that help improve prevention, strengthen immune response and reduce dependence on traditional approaches based on the intensive use of antimicrobials.
In this context, there is growing interest in compounds of bacterial origin and their potential capacity to modulate immune response or provide antimicrobial activity. However, the available knowledge remains fragmented and difficult to compare.
At present, there are no sufficiently homogeneous technical criteria to systematically identify, obtain and evaluate which bioactive molecules have the greatest potential for future applications in animal health.
This uncertainty limits the ability to move towards new biotechnological solutions, especially in areas such as experimental formulations linked to veterinary autogenous vaccines.
The Project
To respond to this challenge, INGULADOS is promoting the BALIMMUNE project, an R&D initiative aimed at building a reproducible scientific and technical framework for the research of bioactive molecules of bacterial origin.
The project focuses on the identification, obtainment and comparative evaluation of compounds with potential immunomodulatory capacity and/or antimicrobial activity. To achieve this, experimental methodologies will be developed to generate comparable, traceable and useful data for future development phases.
BALIMMUNE seeks to reduce the technological uncertainty associated with these compounds and establish objective criteria to help select candidates with greater scientific and technical interest.
In addition, the project includes the analysis of their compatibility with experimental formulations used as references in veterinary autogenous vaccines, always within an industrial research phase and without anticipating immediate commercial applications.
The Impact
BALIMMUNE represents an important step forward in strengthening INGULADOS’ R&D capabilities in the field of biotechnology applied to animal health.
On the one hand, the project will generate new knowledge on bacterial bioactive molecules with immunomodulatory and antimicrobial potential. On the other hand, it will help define methodologies and technical criteria that can guide future research and development decisions.
This approach is aligned with current sector trends, which seek more sustainable, preventive solutions compatible with the One Health approach.
Likewise, BALIMMUNE may help open new research pathways in the development of complementary tools for animal health, supporting the transition towards more advanced strategies based on scientific evidence.
The project also reinforces INGULADOS’ positioning as an innovative company in veterinary biotechnology, with the capacity to develop its own knowledge and explore new high-value-added solutions.
The Result
Thanks to Evolution Europe’s support throughout the application preparation and management process, INGULADOS has obtained a grant of €485,184.00 through the Aid Portal of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, under the CVI SEPIDES 2025 programme.
This financial support will enable the company to advance in the development of the BALIMMUNE project, an R&D initiative focused on the selection, obtainment and evaluation of bacterial bioactive molecules with potential future application in animal health.
The collaboration with Evolution Europe was key to structuring the proposal, aligning the project with the programme requirements and strengthening its technical and strategic approach, thereby contributing to the successful obtainment of the funding.
In the long term, BALIMMUNE will lay the foundations for new R&D lines, strengthen INGULADOS’ scientific and technical capabilities and help consolidate its role within the veterinary biotechnology innovation ecosystem.
In addition, the project will generate structured and reproducible knowledge, reducing technological uncertainty and facilitating the planning of future development stages in the field of immunomodulation and antimicrobial activity of bacterial origin.
