Mercedes holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering. After several years working in R&D, she transitioned into innovation consulting, leveraging her strong technical background to support companies in bringing cutting-edge research to market through strategic funding opportunities.
She joined Evolution in 2017 as an Innovation Consultant for European Grants, supporting deep-tech companies in securing competitive public funding. Over the years, she played a key role in the development and submission of high-impact proposals across multiple sectors, guiding clients from early-stage concept development to successful project execution. In 2021, her role evolved into a leadership position within the European Grants department, where she oversaw proposal quality and ensured cross-functional coordination. During this time, she strengthened client relationships, enhanced internal processes, and contributed to securing competitive European funding, particularly from the European Innovation Council (EIC).
In 2023, Mercedes joined Ernst & Young (EY), focusing on securing European funding for large-scale sustainability and innovation projects. Working within multidisciplinary teams, she supported major organizations in aligning their sustainability strategies with EU funding instruments—such as the Innovation Fund and Connecting Europe Facility—contributing to the economic viability of pioneering environmental and innovation-driven initiatives.
In 2026, she rejoined Evolution as Head of Funding, bringing extensive experience in European funding strategy. In this role, she leads the deep-tech funding practice, defines strategic direction, strengthens client partnerships, and drives the development of high-quality, competitive proposals across both European and national funding programs.
