History

From Local Roots to Global Impact

In 2002, Spain issued Royal Decree 1432/2002, allowing companies to receive tax deductions for R&D activities. Seeing the opportunity, brothers José and Pedro Romero, with backgrounds in tax consultancy and banking, founded Innova Consulting. Focused on Spanish R&D tax incentives, the firm quickly grew through their strong network and expertise.

In 2015, the company rebranded as Evolution Europe, expanding its services across the continent. What began as a two-person initiative became a leading consultancy with more than 50 professionals managing over 300 projects annually. The team includes experts in science, technology, and finance, many holding PhDs and postdoctoral experience.

José Romero

José Romero

Co-Founder

José has over 20 years of professional experience advising a variety of different enterprises. He has worked in firms such as Deloitte & Touche and Ernst & Young as an auditor and consultant and has deep knowledge of the venture capital industry. As the CEO of Evolution, he defines the firm’s strategy and leads commercial activities. He enriches projects with outstanding value propositions and cares deeply for the career development of Evolution’s employees. Through his passion for endurance races he always has the stamina for the long run, exploring new possibilities, and working in unmapped territory while being always mindful of the spirit of the organization.
Pedro Romero

Pedro Romero

Co-Founder

Pedro has a degree in Business Management and Administration from the Sorbonne University in Paris and holds a Master’s degree in financial markets from the ISG Institute, also in Paris. He has actively supported the financing of innovative projects for more than 10 years. Not only has he launched several startups, but he has also supported other entities, such as university spin-offs and other technological enterprises, on their board of directors. As COO, he leads operations and finance at Evolution. Pedro enjoys supporting entrepreneurs and the impact Evolution has partnering in client’s success and maximizing the chances of their new products and services succeeding in the market. He is passionate about all types of adventure and mountain sports and takes every chance he gets to ski, take his bike into the mountains or enter races.

Victor Rodríguez

CEO

Victor graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Valladolid. For more than 10 years he has worked on different R&D projects dealing with the execution and management of innovation activities in a variety of fields. He started his career in the aeronautical and in the food and water analyses sectors. After working on different innovation projects for over four years in a SME of the automotive sector, he joined Evolution in 2014. Since then he has collaborated in the preparation of different initiatives and programs. He is responsible for coordinating the European project department and enjoys evaluating the potential of innovative ideas and developing strategies to bring products and services to de market. Outside of works he enjoys a variety of sports, reading books, socializing and gastronomy.

Eva Zamarro

Eva Zamarro

Head of Finance, Administration & Legal

Eva holds a Diploma of Higher Education in Business Administration and Finance. She has been part of Evolution since 2011, starting at Innova Consulting and later continuing at Evolution, contributing to the growth of both companies. Over the years, she has collaborated in the administrative management of national and European grants, as well as providing administrative support to the R&D Tax Deductions and Tax Credit departments. She is currently the Director of the Administration and Finance Department, working closely with the company’s management.

Eva enjoys being part of the Evolution team because it means always looking ahead and thinking about what new opportunities and solutions can be offered to clients as a result of the company’s continuous improvement.

Outside the office, Eva has three main passions: music, as a source of inspiration, relaxation, and renewal; travelling, both within Spain and abroad to broaden natural, cultural, and social horizons; and, of course, her family.

Administration Manager

Belén holds a Double Degree in Business Administration and Law from the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid. After completing her studies, she has developed her professional career providing accounting and tax services at companies from different sectors, a task that she is currently developing at Evolution. Outside working hours, she is really into music, nature and she enjoys spending time with her family.

People Manager

David has a degree in Labor Relations from the University of Valladolid and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from the College of Political Scientists and Sociologists of Madrid. His goal is to learn day by day and implement strategic solutions that allow the development of people and therefore of companies. He enjoys family, sports, mountains and friends.

IT Manager

With over seven years of experience in the technology and telecommunications sector, Miguel Ángel has built his career contributing to key projects involving networks, IT infrastructure, and connectivity services for business environments. Throughout his professional journey, he has managed technical implementations, led incident resolution efforts, and played a key role in optimizing technological processes.

Passionate about innovation, he is committed to continuous learning and actively seeks out new challenges that foster both professional and personal growth. He has a particular interest in technological solutions that create a positive impact on people’s lives and in driving digital transformation within business processes.

Outside of work, Miguel Ángel enjoys technology as a hobby and finds balance by spending time in nature—especially in the mountains—or discovering new places through travel.

Amy holds a degree in International Relations from IE University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in E-commerce and Digital Marketing at EAE Business School. She has experience in marketing and communications, with expertise in SEO, content creation, and social media management, as well as specialized knowledge in EU funding and private fundraising communication.

Coming from a multicultural French–English background and having grown up in Malaysia, she has developed strong adaptability and a global perspective. She aims to bridge communication and policy, engaging diverse audiences and supporting impactful innovation initiatives.

Leticia Escribano (1)

Leticia Escribano

Head of Advisory and National Programmes

Leticia has a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition, Food Science and Technology from the Autonoma University of Madrid and completed a degree in Financial Accounting from the Financial Studies Center in Madrid. She has been a member of the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CIAL-CSIC), collaborating in research activities related to bioactive food ingredients, supercritical fluid extraction technology, and the applied physical chemistry industries.

At Evolution Europe, Leticia leads the technical and financial functional aspects of the Taxation Relief Department. Leticia takes pride in using her combination of functional and business expertise to develop the technical elements of customer’s proposals and drive sustainable business growth at Evolution.

Outside of these activities she is devoted to causes that benefit human rights, nature, and the environment and practices yoga on a daily basis.

Carlos Simón

Carlos Simón

Project Manager

Carlos holds a Degree in Industrial Technical Engineering (specializing in Industrial Chemistry) from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He has more than 10 years of experience in both consulting and auditing and certification. He is also experienced in providing support in public financing and tax incentives for technological projects and R&D. He is passionate about motorcycles and a lover of nature and outdoor activities.

Miriam holds a degree in Engineering in Industrial Organization and Agricultural Technical Engineering, specialty in Agricultural and Food Industries, with experience in R&D management for different innovative agents and in consulting.

María holds a Degree in Human Nutrition from the Pablo de Olavide University of Sevilla and she completed her studies specializing in Technology and Food Industry. After finishing her studies, she participated in a cultural exchange program in the United Kingdom. She started working on the field of consulting, specializing in tax deductions in R&D, with experience in several areas such as chemical industry, food, etc. In her free time, she enjoys reading books, hanging out with her friends and family or travelling. Esther has a degree in chemical Engineering and a Master in Business Administration. With more than ten years of experience in consulting, in recent years she has focused on the management of public financing and tax deduction for research and development activities for different industrial sectors, her constant training and experience have allowed her to specialize in the identification, diagnosis and management of financing of national programs in Spain. In her free time, she enjoys walks in the mountains with her family and loves to travel.

He decided to apply all this knowledge and change his professional career through R&D consultancy to seek financing and grants for IT companies. Manuel is a Road, Canal and Port Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with a Master’s Degree in Supply Chain Management & Logistics. He has around 8 years of experience in the innovation sector, which he achieved as a post-graduate researcher and his participation working in strategic consultancy. In the last few years, he has being involved in numerous projects related to public funding and tax incentives for companies from different industries. Fernando is an Industrial Technical Engineer (specialised in industrial electronics), and he has also a degree in Industrial Organization Engineering from the University of Valladolid. He holds complementary training in the field of innovation management through the Training Programme on R&D Management from Castilla y León. He has more than five years of experience managing R&D funding projects, and tax incentives in several national and regional programmes for companies from different sectors. In his spare time, he likes to watch sports and exercise, mainly he enjoys playing indoor football.

Sergio has a degree in Environmental Sciences and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has over 7 years of experience as an R&D consultant, identifying direct and indirect funding opportunities for innovation projects in different sectors. He has participated in some initiatives related to renewable energy, waste management and circular economy. In addition, he has developed part of his career in Chile, where he specialised in methodologies and tools to stimulate innovation in organisations. He spends his spare time running and trail running, reading, and cooking.
Pablo Vicente Aparici

Pablo Vicente Aparici

Pablo studied Technical Engineering and also held a degree in Telecommunications, specialising in Sound and Image, both at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). He started his professional career in the field of Acoustics and Energy Efficiency. Afterwards, he leapt to the world of R&D consultancy, where he has been involved in identifying ICT projects and managing tax deductions, bonuses and grants for innovation for over 7 years. He enjoys practising sports, such as football and tennis, in his spare time. Other hobbies are reading, cinema, series and the audiovisual media in general. He is a travel enthusiast, and every time he has the chance, he goes on a trip around the world.
Verónica Gonzalo

Verónica Gonzalo

Project Management

Verónica studied Humanities and Communication at the University of Deusto in San Sebastian. She started working in communication, first on Radio as a news editor and later in the consulting world. She has worked in a financing consultancy for 6 years, managing public grants and subventions for projects in various fields. She has advised clients on strategies to follow and also prepared forms, reports and other necessary documentation to formalise applications. In her most recent work experience, she developed administrative tasks, being in charge of the invoicing process, client follow-up and collection management, as well as the management of external suppliers, support to the accounting department and support to the HR department. One of her main motivations is never to stop learning; she loves being involved in projects that will bring her new expertise. She likes working in a team, sharing experiences and developing new skills. She is passionate about history. So one of her hobbies is travelling and visiting historical places and monuments. She enjoys nature with her family on hiking and biking routes. She also practices yoga and dances.
Ana Jiménez Zamora

Ana Jiménez Zamora

Dr. Ana Jiménez Zamora has a degree in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Granada. Throughout her professional career, she has worked in the public sector, within the General Subdirectorate of Food Control and Laboratories, as well as in various private consulting firms. As a passionate researcher in the agri-food sector, Dr. Jiménez Zamora has led a variety of projects ranging from practical perspectives focused on product development and formulation to more analytical approaches studying physicochemical and organoleptic properties.

She has also contributed to scientific aspects related to the drafting and review of documentation and legislative issues associated with the application of quality control and food safety regulations, and explored clinical perspectives in nutritional intervention studies. In her free time, Dr. Jiménez Zamora enjoys the company of her family, making crafts, and participating in various activities involving creativity.

Maite Garcia Guasch

Maite Garcia Guasch

Innovation Consultant

Maite is from Barcelona, and her passion for understanding how cells work led her to study biochemistry. During her degree, she had the opportunity to do an Erasmus in Florence, where she discovered her interest in the world of nutrition and its impact on biochemistry. After her return, she specialized in food safety, which allowed her to investigate the metabolic effect of nutrients on diseases such as obesity and diabetes. She then focused her career on breast cancer for her PhD thesis, which she submitted in June 2023. Now, her motivation is to apply her knowledge from a different perspective.

Maite speaks Catalan, Spanish, English, Italian, and Portuguese, reflecting her interest in languages and cultures. In her free time, she likes to draw, read, and play paddle tennis. She loves to travel, see new cultures and ways of living, and try the local gastronomy.

Mª Carmen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Granada, a Master’s Degree in Integrated Quality Management from the University of the Balearic Islands, and complementary training such as Project Management Professional Certification. Throughout her career, she has worked in various environments, both in the private sector and in public institutions and the University of Granada. She has played a key role in the management and promotion of research and innovation projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and participating in publicly funded projects. She is passionate about science and open innovation and is characterized by his initiative and commitment in everything she does.
Iván Benito

Iván Benito

Junior Project Manager

Iván completed a Vocational Training Program in Administrative Management at IES Neil Armstrong. During his studies, he interned at Evolution Europe, where he trained in document management on IT platforms, data processing, and completing financial reports. Outside of his professional field, Iván has two great passions: padel and cinema. Playing padel allows him to develop his strategic side and improve teamwork skills. On the other hand, cinema provides him with great cultural enrichment and entertainment, as well as the opportunity to recommend and discuss movies with others.  
Gemma Roig

Gemma Roig

Innovation Consultant

Gemma Roig has a degree in Agricultural Engineering, specialising in environmental resources and precision livestock farming. She has also completed a higher degree as a laboratory technician, which reflects her interest in health sciences. She is passionate about international relations and technology transfer, as well as European aid programmes, although she is always open to acquiring new knowledge and exploring new areas of interest. In her spare time, Gemma enjoys outdoor sports such as scuba diving and climbing.

Daniel, with a background in Administrative Management and Business Administration and Finance, is currently pursuing a university degree in Labor Relations and Employment.

His professional experience focuses on the economic and financial field, working as an Economic Consultant and Account Manager. He specializes in optimizing tax deductions, bonuses for research staff, and managing grants for R&D&I projects, particularly in the ICT and industrial sectors.

Outside of work, he enjoys watching movies and TV series, as well as spending time with family and friends. He also likes to make the most of his time outdoors.

Juan Carlos holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Ana Gomis Riera has a background in Food Engineering and holds an Advanced Technician qualification in Food Industry Processes and Quality. She is passionate about understanding how the industry works from the inside and has had the opportunity to take part in project management and certification processes linked to R&D&I initiatives, which has given her an innovative and hands-on perspective of the sector.

Outside of her professional role, she describes herself as a curious and creative person. Gastronomy and oenology are among her main interests, and she enjoys exploring new flavors and learning about the culture behind each culinary experience. She also spends time reading, caring for her plants, and listening to music across a wide variety of genres.

Overall, she stands out for combining a technical mindset with artistic sensitivity, balancing structure with creativity, and maintaining a constant drive to learn and embrace new challenges.

Elisa holds a Biochemistry Degree from the University of Malaga and a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from the Autonomous University of Madrid, doing the internship for her Master’s dissertation in the laboratory of Nephrology in “Fundación Jiménez Díaz”. In 2019 she started a course about R&D Consulting in the Institute of Business Research in Madrid while acquiring practical experience in Evolution. Elisa enjoys her free time practicing sport and dance as well as doing activities in nature.

Mercedes Victoria García

Head of Funding

Mercedes holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering. After several years working in R&D, she transitioned into innovation consulting, leveraging her strong technical background to support companies in bringing cutting-edge research to market through strategic funding opportunities.

She joined Evolution in 2017 as an Innovation Consultant for European Grants, supporting deep-tech companies in securing competitive public funding. Over the years, she played a key role in the development and submission of high-impact proposals across multiple sectors, guiding clients from early-stage concept development to successful project execution. In 2021, her role evolved into a leadership position within the European Grants department, where she oversaw proposal quality and ensured cross-functional coordination. During this time, she strengthened client relationships, enhanced internal processes, and contributed to securing competitive European funding, particularly from the European Innovation Council (EIC).

In 2023, Mercedes joined Ernst & Young (EY), focusing on securing European funding for large-scale sustainability and innovation projects. Working within multidisciplinary teams, she supported major organizations in aligning their sustainability strategies with EU funding instruments—such as the Innovation Fund and Connecting Europe Facility—contributing to the economic viability of pioneering environmental and innovation-driven initiatives.

In 2026, she rejoined Evolution as Head of Funding, bringing extensive experience in European funding strategy. In this role, she leads the deep-tech funding practice, defines strategic direction, strengthens client partnerships, and drives the development of high-quality, competitive proposals across both European and national funding programs.

Pilar Muñoz

Pilar Muñoz

Head of European Programmes - Technical

Enthusiastic and highly motivated person with particular interest in healthcare projects to the benefit of society. I enjoy practicing sports, going to the cinema, reading good thrillers, and travelling.

Pilar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid (Spain) and a PhD in Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry from the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University (UK). After three years of carrying out scientific research at public institutions (Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff University and the Medicinal Chemistry Institute, CSIC, Madrid), she moved to the Biotech-Pharma industry where she managed R&D Medicinal Chemistry projects as a Senior Scientist for nearly 10 years, gaining wide expertise leading R&D projects from their early research stage through drug-product development and scale up.

She is the author of more than 12 scientific publications in internationally recognized journals and holds 6 international patents. She has been at Evolution for two years and is a Senior Project Manager within the framework of the Horizon Europe programme. While she is involved in proposal preparation in many technological sectors, she has a special interest in healthcare and Biotech-pharma projects.

Santiago Ocón

Santiago Ocón

Project Manager

Santiago has a degree in Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has experience in laboratory research activities in biotechnology start-ups, where he learned about European R&D funding frameworks. He then gained experience in project development within Horizon 2020 and has carried out this task for 4 years. Evolution is involved in helping clients bring their innovative ideas to the market with the support of such R&D funding schemes. He is interested in the circular economy and the bioeconomy and in finding intersectoral and international synergies in this field. Santiago enjoys learning innovative concepts that take advantage of the potential of biotechnology to improve the lives of people and their environment.
Jason Lakkiss

Jason is a graduate in Law and Business in PRINCE2 with more than 8 years of Experience working on European Funded Programs. He has vast knowledge of Horizon Europe/European Structural Investment Fund Programs and Project delivery. He has excellent project management, communication, organisation and IT skills with an excellent track record of networking at all levels. He also has strong interpersonal acumen and a proven ability to meet targets and solve problems ahead of schedule and within budget. He has extensive experience and a skills range that comprises of the following: Project Management, Project Delivery, Databases/Data Entry and Recording, Data Monitoring and Analysis, Networking, Business Planning, Project Development, Communication, Mentoring and Consulting, Writing and Editing, Project proposals, Event Organizing, Audit Reports, and Strategic Marketing.
Paloma Gutiérrez (1)

Paloma Gutiérrez

After completing a degree in International Secretarial Studies, she worked in a variety of fields, including health and consulting, and has over 10 years of experience in marketing and administration departments. She launched her marketing career in the music industry and has planned and analyzed campaigns for national and international artists, organized press conferences and annual sales meetings. She is now in charge of the Management of European projects and act as the liaison between National and International public institutions and our client portfolio. She enjoys contacting our customers in order to understand their needs and provide the highest level of assistance. She has a variety of interests outside the office, like music, cooking and travelling.
Alberto Vallejo

Alberto Vallejo

Project Management

Alberto holds a Degree in Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, specializing in environmental biology. He has experience in Environmental Consultancy, especially in the fields of fresh water quality control, environmental flows prescription, nature conservation, taxonomy, sample preparation and analysis. In 2011 he moved to Ireland where he gained broad experience dealing with the management and communication of EU projects funded under different European initiatives and programs (FP7, Horizon Europe and Erasmus +, among others). Within the European Project Department of Evolution, he works as an intermediary between the European Commission and Evolution’s clients. At national and regional levels, he analyzes different funding programs and support clients to ensure proper implementation of their innovative projects. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, climbing, traveling and socializing.

Jonathan is a mechanical engineer, with experience in various industries, and holds an MBA. He has been helping innovative start-ups and SMEs get financing for over ten years.

María has a PhD in Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid and extensive experience in the R&D field. She has developed her professional career for over 15 years working on innovative processes and technology transfer. She has also coordinated applied engineering projects about life sciences, biotechnology, and more recently, about new health sciences. During the last years, she has led innovation, protection of knowledge and technology activities. María has also managed collaborations between public entities, SMEs and big international and national companies. She is very curious and hard-working. She likes to think that every challenge is the best opportunity to improve. In her spare time, she loves to read crime novels and enjoys designing and sewing her own clothes.

She graduated in Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid and obtained a Master’s Degree in Biotechnology from the Aliter Business School. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Research from the University of Valladolid. María Jesús has extensive experience in biomaterial design related to drug delivery. While preparing her thesis, she had the opportunity to work in India (Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology) and in the United States (at Duke University’s biomaterials department). During this period, she published in 8 high-impact journals and participated in several international congresses.

Later, she continued developing her professional career in science and innovation by writing H2020 proposals, while simultaneously managing diverse projects related to clinical and preclinical research for the cardiology department of the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital for three years. María Jesús shows a strong interest in business development, helping new companies succeed with their innovative ideas, and enjoys learning about new topics and technologies while engaging multidisciplinary teams. Outside the office, she likes spending time with family and friends, and whenever possible she goes to the countryside to hike or practice MTB with the best company.

Daniel obtained his Bachelor of Science (Audio Technology) from American University in Washington D.C., and a Post-Graduate degree in Radio Production from Humber College (Toronto, Canada). He spent various years working in theatre and television in Washington, Canada, France and Madrid. He then worked for an international IT company in various capacities, culminating in helping sales teams refine their messaging for sales pitches. Since 2017, Daniel has specialised in the EIC Accelerator programme, working on getting SMEs and start-ups the financing they need to complete their technology projects. He is passionate about playing his part in helping to improve society through innovative solutions.
Álvaro González

Álvaro is an Environmental Scientist with an Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree in Industrial Ecology and Ecological Economics. He has been professionally engaged in urban metabolism, life cycle assessment and waste management in different research institutions in Spain, France and Serbia. Álvaro is also involved in social entrepreneurship, having co-founded a nonprofit organisation in the regenerative sustainability field. Since 2017, Álvaro has been working with Evolution, first as a freelance writer and now as an Innovation Consultant. Learning about cutting-edge technology in many different science fields is what he enjoys the most. In his free time, Álvaro likes to read, walk, work out and eat well.

Sofia’s passion is to grow businesses through innovation. She’s a strategist who has worked for the last 7 years with start-ups, but even before, she worked supporting the launch of new products in big corporations. She managed a +100 startup portfolio and a +10 people team and has vast experience in the USA and EU private and public sectors.  Her favourite tasks are to design and align strategies, motivate those around her, assuring flawless implementation. She is super passionate about her family and friends in her spare time. They would define her as a loyal, dedicated, loving person and a natural communicator. She also enjoys practising her artistic side: acting, sculpting, playing guitar and painting.

Enrique considers himself persevering, methodical and constant in his work, applying creativity and learning from his colleagues and clients. He lives with passion and an optimistic approach, enjoying every moment. His hobbies include running, swimming, cycling, triathlon and long walks.

David has a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Granada, having completed the last two years in the speciality of Environmental Engineering at the University of Milan. After his training, his professional experience has been based on advising companies from different sectors to make their R&D and environmental-related projects and investments profitable, with a personalised and high added value approach. He understands that the consulting industry must be focused on the needs of the client, with pillars such as honesty and transparency, generating mutual trust to meet expectations and create new business synergies. In his free time, he likes to enjoy family, friends, nature, gastronomy and dog training, an area in which he is registered to practice, having his own methodology.

Noemí holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the city where she was born. She also completed a Master’s Degree in Obligatory Secondary Education and Professional Training from the same university. She has experience working as an engineer and as a teacher, as well as in customer service. Since 2016, she has been working under the H2020 program, supporting several companies through project management.

Apart from Spanish, she speaks English, Italian, and French. She has a curious mindset and loves travelling, having lived abroad for a couple of years in different locations such as Ireland and Italy. In her free time, Noemí enjoys dancing, writing, and reading.

Trained as a lawyer, Alice Mussard specialized in business and innovation during her postgraduate studies in France and Germany.
