Interreg SUDOE is designed to strengthen transnational cooperation and innovation across South-West Europe, bringing together regions from Spain, Portugal, southern France, and Gibraltar. 

 Whether you’re promoting regional sustainability, boosting innovation capacity, or enhancing social and territorial cohesion, the Interreg SUDOE programme funds collaborative projects that tackle shared challenges in areas such as climate adaptation, resource efficiency, and digital transformation. Projects typically range from applied research and pilot initiatives (TRL 4–7) to the validation of transnational solutions with measurable regional impact.

About the Interreg SUDOE programme

Eligible Applicants

Entities must be based in eligible regions of Spain, Portugal, France, or Andorra. Projects must involve partners from at least three different countries.

  • Public authorities (local, regional, national)
  • Universities, research institutes, clusters
  • NGOs and private non-profit organizations
  • SMEs and private companies (limited roles)
Eligible geographic areas

Interreg SUDOE covers the South-West European Space, including most of Spain (all regions except the Canary Islands), the southwest of France (Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie), all regions of Portugal including Madeira and the Azores, and the entirety of Andorra.

Application process

The Interreg SUDOE application process follows a 2-phase submission system managed through the official eSudoe platform (https://esudoe.eu):

  1. 📝 Step 1 – Pre-Proposal (Concept Note): Applicants submit a short 8–10 page concept note summarizing project objectives, partnership, and alignment with SUDOE priorities. Only top-ranked proposals are invited to proceed.

  2. 📄 Step 2 – Full Proposal: Selected applicants then prepare a detailed 40–60 page full proposal, including the work plan, budget, and partner commitments.

Calls usually open in spring (March–May), and all official templates, guidance, and exact deadlines are published on the Interreg SUDOE website.

Evaluation criteria

Interreg Sudoe proposals are evaluated based on strategic relevance, transnational value, partnership quality, impact, and financial feasibility. Projects must clearly align with programme priorities and demonstrate strong cooperation and demonstrate measurable, sustainable results.
